About this program
UNSW's Master of Teaching (Secondary) is an accelerated, two-year equivalent postgraduate secondary teaching qualification recognised across NSW, other Australian states and widely overseas, completable full-time in four terms (1.3 years) or part-time in 2.3 years. After completing the first full-time-equivalent year, which follows a fixed, intensive structure of four courses per term, graduates become eligible to apply for jobs in NSW schools while the second year offers greater flexibility, including a part-time option that still allows teaching eligibility after the second year. It suits graduates from any discipline who've decided on secondary teaching as a career and want the fastest accredited route into the classroom, rather than an undergraduate teaching degree, with the compressed first-year structure demanding genuine full-time commitment from students who choose that pathway.

Admissions
Applicants require a recognised Bachelor's degree with studies in the relevant teaching specialisation(s): First Teaching Area - a major, consisting of a sequence of at least six units of undergraduate study in a teaching area, with no more than two at first year and at least two at third year level. Additional Teaching Area - a minor consisting of a sequence of at least four units of undergraduate study in a teaching area, with at least two of these at second year (or above). Additional WAM Requirement Entry into the Master of Teaching (Secondary) requires a WAM of 60 or higher.
