Bachelor of Psychological Science

Victoria University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

An APAC-accredited undergraduate psychology sequence, which matters because it's the accreditation students need if they want to progress to honours and eventually provisional registration as a psychologist. A non-accredited psych degree closes that path off entirely. VU delivers the core sequence (research methods, cognition, developmental, social and biological psychology, and statistics) in its block format, meaning students spend four weeks immersed in, say, statistics before moving to the next unit rather than splitting attention across a semester.

Students needing the accredited sequence typically go on to VU's honours year or transfer into postgraduate psychology elsewhere, since the three-year bachelor alone isn't sufficient for registration. The course also serves students who don't intend to become psychologists at all: human resources, market research and community services graduates make up a meaningful share of the cohort, using the degree as a behavioural-science foundation rather than a clinical pathway.

VU's psych program is smaller than the large metropolitan universities' offerings, which in practice means smaller tutorial groups in the statistics and research methods units that trip a lot of students up elsewhere.
