Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Civil Engineering

Western Sydney University, Sydney, NSW, Australia

About this program

WSU's Civil Engineering (Honours) degree is taught out of the Penrith (Kingswood) campus and is accredited at Professional Engineer level with Engineers Australia, covering the standard civil engineering spine (structures, geotechnical, water, transport) with an emphasis on infrastructure that reflects the region's own construction boom. Western Sydney has been the site of enormous infrastructure investment over the past decade (the new international airport, associated road and rail corridors, new housing release areas), and the program's project-based subjects and industry placements draw directly on that pipeline rather than needing to import case studies from elsewhere.

Students complete mandatory industry work experience as part of the accreditation requirements, and the degree's honours component is built into the standard four-year structure rather than requiring an additional year, with the fourth-year engineering project functioning as the capstone research and design piece.

Graduates commonly move into roles with the major infrastructure contractors and state government agencies working on Sydney's western growth areas, which gives the degree a genuinely strong local employment pipeline relative to some engineering programs based further from where the actual construction is happening.
