About this program

A four-semester master's (about 16 months) of twelve subjects, and the only actuarial program offered in Queensland. The sequence runs from financial mathematics, accounting principles and business economics through mathematical statistics, linear models and applied econometrics, then survival analysis, stochastic processes and corporate finance, finishing with stochastic asset-liability modelling and the valuation of financial derivatives.

It is accredited by the Actuaries Institute and covers all university components of the Part I Foundation Program, so graduates leave with exemptions toward professional qualification. Students with a cognate undergraduate degree can receive up to 30 credit points of advanced standing. Teaching draws on the Bond FinTech Hub and a Bloomberg certification pathway. The degree is aimed at numerate graduates from other fields who want to move into actuarial, risk or investment analysis work; anyone wanting Part II coverage as well should look at the longer Master of Actuarial Practice.

Admissions

A completed bachelor's degree (or equivalent). Open to applicants without a prior actuarial or quantitative degree, who complete a longer program; strong mathematical ability is expected and cognate study attracts advanced standing.
