About this program
Monash University Bachelor of Economics explores the principles the economy is built on and how decisions are analysed in a commercial context, developing analytical thinking and logical problem-solving. The 144-point course is structured in parts: foundation commerce knowledge (24 points), specialist discipline knowledge and a capstone experience (72 points), and elective study (48 points), with 96 points focused on economics. Students can follow one of four specialisations, such as economics and economic policy, which covers microeconomics, macroeconomics and the theory behind production, distribution and consumption with an emphasis on policy. Applicants need a minimum 70 per cent average for selection. Professional economists work as policy makers, researchers and leaders across the public and private sectors, and Monash graduates join agencies such as the State and Federal Treasury, the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Productivity Commission. International tuition is about A$59,300 per year.
