About this program
Monash's Bachelor of Economics studies how individuals, businesses and governments allocate scarce resources, drawing on other social sciences and modern data analysis techniques to develop solutions to real economic problems rather than treating economics as a purely theoretical discipline. Students choose one of four specialisations: economics and economic policy, business analytics for economics, macroeconomics and financial markets, or mathematical economics and econometrics, each building deeper expertise suited to different career directions within the broader discipline. That specialisation structure means the degree can lead toward quite different roles depending on the path chosen, from policy analysis to quantitative financial roles to more technical econometric work. It suits students who want a genuinely analytical, quantitative social science degree, and the range of specialisations lets students lean toward policy work, financial markets or technical econometrics without needing a separate degree for each direction.

Course structure
- You must complete units as specified in Parts A
- B
- C and D (144 credit points): including 96 credit points of study in Parts A
- B and C
- and 48 credit points of elective studies in Part D. In choosing your units
- you must ensure that you complete no more than ten units (60 credit points) at level 1 and at least six units (36 credit points) at level 3
- including four units (24 credit points) at level 3 offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics. Units are 6 points unless otherwise specified. Part A.
