Master of Architecture
Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
About this program
Monash's Master of Architecture is the second of two degrees required for professional architecture registration in Australia, taken either after Monash's own Bachelor of Architectural Design (with automatic progression) or after an equivalent architecture bachelor's completed within the last five years. The course centres on research-led design studios and professional practice subjects, working at a range of scales in live social and cultural contexts to build graduates' confidence handling genuinely complex, real-world architectural problems rather than abstract design exercises. Explicit commitments to social and spatial justice, environmental sustainability and community wellbeing run through the studios, positioning graduates as change agents in their profession rather than purely technical designers. On completion, graduates demonstrate the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia's National Competency Standards, meeting the accreditation requirements for registration as an architect. It suits architecture graduates ready to complete their professional qualification, whether they trained at Monash or elsewhere, provided their qualifying degree is recent enough to meet the five-year currency requirement.
