Master of Social Work

Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia

About this program

Monash's Master of Social Work builds an integrated understanding of social work practice, training students to apply professional knowledge, make sound ethical judgements and exercise professional discretion in situations that rarely have a single clear-cut answer. The curriculum emphasises critical thinking and evidence-informed decision-making throughout, backed by simulated practice scenarios and structured fieldwork placements that put theory into real professional contexts before graduation. It's designed to produce work-ready, globally minded practitioners rather than graduates who need substantial additional training before they can start practising, which matters given the ethical complexity and client vulnerability social workers regularly navigate. The course suits graduates from psychology, sociology, human services or related backgrounds who want to move into social work practice across child protection, mental health, community services, aged care or hospital social work settings.
