About this program
The University of Canberra's Master of Counselling is a part-time, 36 credit point degree delivered mostly online over about two years, with 12 study blocks. It combines counselling theory and skills with supervised practice: 200 hours of placement in an approved agency plus a compulsory five-day in-person intensive. Students should expect to travel for placement, and regional students may need to relocate if they cannot secure one locally. Entry is open to graduates from any discipline. The course is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association, so it supports the pathway toward professional registration and membership as a counsellor. Graduates work in mental health services, community organisations, employee assistance programs, schools and private practice. It suits people moving into counselling from another career who want a recognised qualification with a substantial supervised practice component.

Admissions
Admission to this course is competitive. Applications will be assessed on the basis of academic merit, work experience and the number of available places. . Applicants must: . 1. have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline. . No Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be offered for any units included in this course. . We recommend that students progressing to this course from the Graduate Certificate in Counselling (SCC401) complete the four Graduate Certificate units before progressing to the Graduate Diploma or Master to ensure a smooth enrolment transition.
