Bachelor of Design

University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia

About this program

The Bachelor of Design at the University of Queensland is a 3-year interdisciplinary degree that trains students to design products, services, systems and experiences rather than specialising narrowly in one design field. Teaching moves from foundational design processes, visual communication and fabrication into hands-on studio projects, with access to UQ Innovate for prototyping and UQ Ventures for students interested in entrepreneurship. Core courses include design for a better world, design for the circular economy and design for complex systems, and the program is formally recognised by the Design Institute of Australia, the national peak body for the profession. Students graduate with a professional portfolio documenting their design thinking and process rather than only finished pieces. Typical graduate roles span design manager, user experience designer, product designer and service designer across health, business, technology and social innovation sectors.
