About this program
UQ's Bachelor of Education (Primary) trains students to teach across the full range of primary school subjects, from English and mathematics to science, the arts and humanities. Supervised school placements start from first year, building from observation and support work toward a final placement where students take substantial responsibility for a whole class. Core courses cover child development, inclusive classroom practice, Indigenous knowledge and education, and the Australian Curriculum, and students choose one of four minors, in English and literacy, humanities and social sciences, mathematics and numeracy, or science, to deepen their subject knowledge. Small cohort sizes are a deliberate feature of the degree, helping students build a support network alongside their studies. Because Queensland teacher registration requires a higher IELTS band than most UQ degrees, the program suits students who already have strong English proficiency. Graduates register as primary school teachers or move into curriculum planning and learning support roles.
