About this program
UQ's Master of Urban Development and Design trains students to approach cities strategically and holistically, treating urban design as its own discipline rather than a specialism borrowed from architecture or planning. Core courses include urban design: urban futures, contemporary urbanism theory and practice, and urban design: responsive environments, alongside a course in managing organisational behaviour for students who will lead urban projects. The program is aimed at addressing growing global demand for urban designers who can respond to limited resources, population growth and climate change with a strategic view of how cities work rather than one-off design solutions. It suits both working professionals and graduates from architecture, planning or related fields who want to specialise further. Admissions
To be eligible for entry, you'll need a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as architecture, architectural design, design, landscape architecture, planning, regional and town planning, or urban planning, or a graduate certificate, graduate diploma or master's degree in a relevant discipline (GPA 4.5 on a 7-point scale), or a relevant bachelor's degree plus 6 months full-time equivalent relevant postgraduate work experience in an urban design environment (GPA 4.0). Relevant work experience must be supported by a signed employer letter detailing your role, duties and length of employment.
