About this program

The Master of Architecture is the professional, accredited half of UTS's architecture pathway, undertaken after the Bachelor of Design in Architecture or an equivalent qualification, and required for anyone who actually wants to register as a practising architect in Australia. It's accredited jointly by the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia, the NSW Architects Registration Board, the Australian Institute of Architects and the Commonwealth Association of Architects, which matters if a graduate ever wants to practice outside NSW or overseas.

The two-year full-time structure (four years part-time) shifts the emphasis from the bachelor's broad studio exploration toward professional competency. Students take Professional Practice core subjects covering project management, contracts and financing alongside continued design studios, with the studios becoming more technically demanding and project-scaled as students approach graduation.

Because the degree functions as a practice-readiness qualification rather than a purely academic one, a meaningful share of students are already working part-time in architecture firms while completing it, and the program structure (flexible subject selection, part-time option) reflects that reality rather than assuming a purely full-time cohort.
