Master of Professional Psychology (Coursework)
University of Western Australia, Perth, WA, Australia
About this program
The Master of Professional Psychology is a new addition to the programs at UWA and was designed to build on UWA's strengths and long-standing record, while providing job-ready psychologists to the community. The Master of Professional Psychology allows graduates to pursue the new 5+1 pathway to general registration. In first semester you will be provided with intensive training in the application of psychology to the assessment and treatment of mental health issues. Each unit will have an emphasis on providing knowledge as well as skills. You will see experienced clinicians demonstrate these skills and your will be taught how to implement these skills yourself. In second semester you will be working off campus employing these skills while on placement in the community (such as in the School Psychology Service) and completing online studies. The UWA course has also been designed to prepare you to work in rural and remote locations. You will have the same qualification as any other 5th year graduate, but your skills will be honed with an awareness of how psychologists work in regional and remote areas.
