About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Architectural Studies centres on studio-based learning, introducing students to real-world design challenges like climate-responsive architecture, housing and cultural safety from day one rather than delaying practical design work until later years. The curriculum integrates environmental sustainability, construction principles and digital design skills, with a strong focus on architecture in practice through engagement with industry professionals and real projects, building understanding of design processes, construction methods and professional legal and social responsibilities. Students explore First Nations knowledge and perspectives throughout, ensuring their design work respects cultural heritage and fosters inclusive communities. Graduates can move into diverse architecture and design-based careers or continue into UNSW's accredited Master of Architecture, the recognised pathway to professional architectural registration. UNSW Built Environment recognises that your academic results may not reflect your potential in creative thinking and making. We have therefore introduced an optional alternative admission scheme to give applicants for our design programs an opportunity to submit a portfolio to be considered in conjunction with their academic achievements.
