About this program
UNSW's Bachelor of Economics explores how the decisions of institutions and individuals interact to determine outcomes for the economy and society, covering traditional economic issues like unemployment, taxation and trade policy alongside genuinely pressing human challenges including inequality, climate change, corruption and access to education and healthcare. The degree builds highly transferable analytical skills valued across policy, government, private sector and international organisation careers, with UNSW economics graduates specifically sought after as analysts, researchers, forecasters, journalists and advisors. Students can choose from three economics specialisations, build their own program, or combine economics with other business and commerce study, including through double degree options, and gain practical experience through internships, group consulting projects and global practicums. It suits students who want a flexible economics degree they can shape around their own interests, whether that leads toward government policy work, private sector analysis, or further postgraduate economics study.

Course structure
- Students must complete 144 UOC when taken as a standalone program. These UOC are made up of: Introductory Business Core (6 UOC) Economics Core Courses (48 UOC) Economics Electives (30 UOC) Business School Electives (12 UOC) Free Electives (36 UOC) General Education (12 UOC) Students may choose to use their Economics core and elective courses to complete an optional Economics major. Courses for the major are taken once but also meet core and elective course rules where listed. Students completing the degree as a standalone program may also choose to complete optional majors and minors from outside Economics by using their business electives
