About this program
UNSW's Master of Landscape Architecture uses the Sydney region as its landscape laboratory, building research-informed design skills for equitable, adaptive and sustainable urban and regional environments through a core sequence of design studios, each paired with a supporting skills or knowledge course. Students' design process is grounded in research and critical analysis of real landscape sites and systems, tested through modelling and dialogue rather than developed in the abstract, with electives available in specialised interdisciplinary areas including urban design and city analytics. The program culminates in a final-year capstone studio sequence where students undertake an independent, research-based design project. It suits design graduates who want landscape architecture training grounded in genuine research methodology and real site analysis, encouraged throughout to connect global landscape issues to local, Sydney-based design practice.

Admissions
3 year (144 UOC) program (Specialisation A) A bachelor's degree in any field with a credit average (equivalent to a UNSW WAM of 65), plus submission of a portfolio and personal statement. Twelve months of work experience in a closely related office is highly desirable. *Specialisation LANDDS will not be accepting enrolments in 2027. 2 year (96 UOC) program (Specialisation B) A bachelor's degree in a related field with a credit average (equivalent to a UNSW WAM of 65), plus submission of a portfolio and personal statement. A Graduate Diploma* (or equivalent qualification) in landscape design or a related field with a credit average (equivalent to a UNSW WAM of 65), plus submission of a portfolio and personal statement.
