About this program
Monash's Master of Data Science builds skills across data analysis, data engineering and big data processing, covering statistical machine learning, exploratory analysis and working with structured and semi-structured data sets, while also examining how data science actually affects organisations and society rather than treating it as a purely technical discipline. Notably, entry doesn't require an IT background: students can enter with any bachelor's degree at a credit average, though those without a cognate IT, business, engineering or science background with programming and mathematics experience take the longer, two-year entry pathway rather than the accelerated 18-month option. Students finish with either a research project or a team-based industry experience studio project, letting them choose between an academic and a more applied capstone experience. It suits graduates from any discipline who've decided data science is their next career step, as well as those with an existing quantitative or IT background wanting the faster pathway into data science specialisation.

Entry level 2: 72 points to complete Duration: 1.5 years full-time, 3 years part-time An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline relating to IT, or a business, engineering or science degree with an IT major including python programming, databases, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems and networks, and mathematics (including calculus, linear algebra and probability and statistics) with at least a credit (60%) average.
