Doctor of Philosophy (Health and Behavioural Sciences, Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
About this program
This Doctor of Philosophy listing groups broad University of Queensland research fields in health and behavioural sciences, medicine and biomedical sciences. In practice UQ runs one PhD research degree and admits candidates by field and school rather than through a separate program page for each discipline group. A PhD at UQ is an internationally recognised research degree in which a candidate works independently, guided by an advisory team, to produce original research and an 80,000 word thesis, defended through an oral examination, typically over 3 to 4 years full-time. Clinical or health related PhD projects at UQ carry a higher English language bar than non-clinical research, reflecting the patient facing or clinical data work many of these projects involve. UQ enrols around 1,000 PhD candidates a year across its schools, with access to a Career Development Framework for building transferable research and professional skills. Before applying, a prospective candidate needs to identify a research topic in the relevant health, medical or biomedical field and either secure a supervisor or apply to join an existing project.
