Doctor of Veterinary Clinical Science
University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
About this program
UQ's Doctor of Veterinary Clinical Science is a 3.5-year veterinary residency and doctoral program for already-qualified veterinarians working toward specialist certification. It combines clinical training in UQ's roughly $100 million veterinary facilities, including a small animal hospital, an equine specialist hospital and a diagnostic laboratory, with a research-based thesis of about 50,000 words. Coursework and supervised clinical work in a diagnostic laboratory or teaching hospital build specialist-level skills in areas such as case management, epidemiology and research methods, and count toward the degree alongside the thesis. UQ's veterinary program is accredited by the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American Veterinary Medical Association, which supports international recognition of the qualification. Graduates typically become specialist veterinarians in fields such as anatomical pathology, anaesthesiology or equine surgery, in clinical practice, public health agencies or university research.
